For 20 years, my grandmother and I had a distant relationship. At 80, she had married twice and lived alone for more than a decade after my grandfather died; After being diagnosed with cancer, her daily companions were repeated fluids and chores. In five days of trying to live with her, I learned so many secrets of the family and about her life stories. I realized our relationship took a subtle turn in just a few days.

The contrasting voices of three first-time mothers help to build a more nuanced definition of the label ‘mother’.

Cao Yunlong, the 26-year-old man, has tried to escape from such a 'birdcage'. However, he is still insecure and directionless about the future.
